FAQ

How is take-home pay calculated?

Gross − federal (2025 brackets after std ded) − state − FICA. E.g. $75k single in Texas → ~$8,114 federal + ~$5,738 FICA = ~$61,148. California adds ~$3,031 → ~$58,117.

Which states have no income tax?

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wyoming.

Does Social Security have a cap?

Yes — 6.2% only to $176,100 in 2025. After that you keep more of each extra dollar. Medicare has no cap.

Do 401k / HSA contributions help?

Yes. Dollars entered as pre-tax lower federal + state taxable income in this tool. FICA stays on gross and is labelled.

Is this tax advice?

No — planning estimates only. City tax (e.g. NYC), credits and itemized deductions vary. Talk to a CPA for filing.
